Inspiration
The quahog is a hard -shell clam that can be found along the Atlantic Coast of North America. My sense of place with the Narragansett Bay is always in a state of conflict, however, I am always trying to understand all of the historical, cultural, and environmental nuances that the bay holds. Through many field visits I have gained an appreciation for different perceptions of the bay and with my appreciation I hope to raise awareness to fellow peers and also let my state of conflict allow me to be critical of other discourses and senses to the place around us.
Process
My watercolor sketch consists of different forms of the quahog. I wanted to highlight the iridescent purple surfaces found within the interior of the clam. From this simple pattern, I then transformed the sketch into a larger repeating pattern.
