The Japanese Kochia plant is a summer cypress which colors change from vibrant green in the summer to scarlet red in the fall. For this piece, I was inspired by the mass planting of Kochia bushes at Hitachi Seaside Park located in Japan. Known for its fluffy texture and round shape, these were two aspects of the plant that I wanted to highlight. Through experimenting with different loom techniques such as piling, twill, and exploring different materials, I was able to capture the experience of walking through the park. From drafting sketches to finalizing different color arrangements my final piece incorporates textural representation, perspective, and a sense of interaction.
